Sam provides legal advice to local, national and international clients regarding employment and commercial disputes. Sam has appeared as legal Counsel in successful proceedings before the Employment Court, High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court of New Zealand, and also the High Court and Court of Appeal of the Cook Islands.
Sam has a strong interest in professional disciplinary and well-being issues. He is a National Member of the NZLS Friends Panel and a past member of a Standards Committee. Sam has written various articles on professional responsibility and given expert evidence in High Court proceedings regarding professional matters involving lawyers.
Sam's iwi is Ngati Hikairo in Kawhia. He speaks Japanese and is actively involved in the community, including as a Director of the Royal New Zealand RSA, trustee of the National Poppy Trust, Presiding Member of Waikato Diocesan School for Girls and trustee of the Toro Mai Trust.
